Ole Miss senior Cameron Geranios may be completing his undergraduate education, but his commitment to the North Mississippi community he’s embraced and his philanthropic endeavors with the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity will continue long after he receives his diploma. This summer, Geranios is participating in the Journey of Hope, an annual cross-country cycling trip to promote awareness for people with disabilities. The event is hosted annually by The Ability Experience, the philanthropy of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. Cyclists ride from San Francisco and Seattle to Washington, D.C. And the Blende Dental Group, longstanding advocates of removing barriers to oral health care for the disabled, is proud to sponsor Geranios as he seeks to raise $20,000 for the charitable partner organizations that the Journey of Hope supports.

The Journey of Hope

Each year, according to the Journey of Hope, “approximately 50 men embark on a cross-country trip to test their limits, spread awareness, and celebrate the abilities of all people.” The trek, spanning 8,000 combined miles, empowers passionate participants to spread the message of disability awareness through local media and deliver joy to members of the disability community at each stop along the way.

“Pi Kappa Phi taught me important values such as loyalty, accountability and servant leadership,” Geranios said in an interview with the Oxford Eagle. “I believe in helping people around me and leaving a positive impact on the world.”

The Ability Experience’s mission is not simply to raise awareness but to foster inclusion and increase exposure for organizations around the country that are working tirelessly to assist disabled individuals from all walks of life.

One Student’s Journey to Bring Others Hope

In addition to intense daily rides and physical conditioning, Geranios has been documenting his fundraising, training and volunteering progress with weekly videos on his social media profile. He also created the Time for Change campaign to bolster his fundraising efforts. Partnering with the 11 panhellenic sororities at Ole Miss, Geranios will volunteer one minute of time to the local community for every dollar donated by each sorority.

“I came up with the idea because each sorority has a philanthropic mission that complements our shared dedication to supporting people with disabilities,” he said.

Geranios has since volunteered with the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, North Mississippi Exchange Family Center, Gallant Hearts Guide Dog Center and many others.

Get Involved and Support the Journey of Hope

Although the event begins in June, Geranios still has some distance to close on his journey to raise $20,000. We at the Blende Dental Group have been pleased to contribute. If you would also like to help by making a tax-deductible donation, visit the Time for Change campaign page.
